MORAL DECISIONS CAN NOT BE MADE BY A COMMITTEE, WHICH BY ITS NATURE, HAS NO CONSCIENCE.
After much thought, we have finally managed to articulate why we are in this crazy, unprecedented, abhorrent and disheartening situation. We are referring to the situation whereby Australians are being denied the right to return to, or leave Australia, to for example, spend the last moments with a dying relative, or to see a new family member for the first time, or to simply see their family.
We are in this situation, because the Prime Minister of Australia, decided not to make the difficult decisions about controlling the border himself or in conjunction with the Minister responsible for border control, but instead formed and delegated these decisions to a committee.
A committee itself as an entity has no morals, no understanding of the human connection to a country, no understanding of what is fair and just. A committee has little to no accountability either.
Worse still, this particular committee, the so called “National Cabinet”, is one in which each member does not act in the best interests of the country and its people as a whole, but instead looks after the best interests of their own state/territory and political future. “Returning Australians - not in my backyard thanks” they each think to themselves.
Consequently, every day, thousands of Australians are dealing with genuine trauma, hardship and heartbreak, because their own country has slammed the door in their face.
No other country has ever, or probably will ever take the extreme and morally indefensible step to deliberately obstruct its own citizens from returning to their homeland.
This failure calls into question Scott Morrison’s ability to lead Australia as a collective, and we ask all Australians to consider this at the next election.
